I think I
left you off on Monday’s update from the weekend and somehow Thursday has
already snuck up on me.
On Monday my Project for the day was to open up a Bank
Account to keep everything flowing into so when I have events I can deposit it
there and write the money out of it to send off to Team Fox as we continue to
get a little bit more established. I
have decided to name myself as “Team Spangler” since I may be the one running
the actual race, but we all will be doing it as a team to honor dad/coach/teacher/mentor/friend/someone
who knew him..whatever he was to each of you.
I have yet to get time to get to “On the Run” in Parkersburg where a
fellow running supporter in the area owns the store to get my new pair of
running shoes so I need to find a day I can jet down during normal store
times. I had to attend a work event that
the Governor was attending in the evening so running wasn’t for a very long
time that evening. (I didn’t think I could
ask the Governor to go for a run with me, or if his schedule would permit)
On Tuesday, it was a BEAUTIFUL day so I took for a run on
trails on the farm behind our house. It
is so peaceful back through there and I think I could run for days….but for
this particular run it was only for around 45 minutes. I hate to admit but I’ve yet to run with a
runners watch because I’m trying to get a “base” of mileage going before I
start to really keep on top of things.
Since I had taken a good bit of time off from running, I’m trying to
avoid the knowledge of frustration in comparison to what I use to be able to do
at one point in time, before I consume myself with specifics of times and
distances. But…I’m getting there J
The anxiety of speed when knowing the watch is clicking on your wrist
tends to get a little overworked prior to being ready to speed it up.
Last night was our Blue Thunder Cupcake Party at The Tasty
Cupcakery here in Ripley (they got to decorate their own 2 cupcakes and of
course eat them) J…and they certainly lived up to their “Wild Wednesday”
reputation with the assistance of what seemed like an endless supply of
icing. They all seemed to enjoy it and I
was a little sad to think about not having practices and games anymore. I had gotten a little “action” shot of them
all printed out and put in a little frame for them to be able to keep. I thought if they put it up in their room it
will be a little reminder to work at something or just enjoy basketball. I wrote each of them a little note as well so
they will know how much I enjoyed the team.
I’m certain none of them know how much I talk about them on here J
I suppose all coaches go through this transition until it’s time to recompose
and think about next season. No wander
dad coached an assortment of sports.
On a training update…I got a short run in again followed by
what will probably be the start of a routine involving a bag of ice J
See…I have several trainers who can attest to me not being the most
flexible athlete they’ve ever come across (depending on who you ask, I’m
probably the MOST unflexible) so until I get everything use to be being in use….it’s
nothing a little ice can’t numb up J
As a fundraising update…I did get a P.O. Box
address to be able to “Blast” out to the social media world and other routes of
marketing to work on a few little projects we hope to pursue. I could REALLY use everyone’s help when I get
all the wording correct to blast a hopeful outreach event focusing on just
$1. The general idea is going to be…”Dollars
for Dad’---- Help us Inspire the Nation for
Team Spangler All I’m asking for
is $1 to be sent to the PO box address….
I have a large map I got of the US….and there are so many of us dad has
inspired that have moved out of state etc, and everyone knows someone who may
know dad’s story…and we want to spread that inspiration across the nation for
dad. I am going to keep track of where
the donations come from and mark them on the map (see how much we can accomplish $1 at a time). When I go to visit dad I plan on taking the
map and continuing to show him just where his story has reached and continue to
reach up until the race in November….I would LOVE to get at least one donation
from every state so that we “cover the nation”.
The PO Box Address for “Team Spangler” or you can address my name as
well “Missy Spangler” (I have it registered as both) is:
Team
Spangler and/or Missy Spangler
P.O. Box 403
Ripley, WV
25271
I’m looking
forward to stopping on my way home everyday to see who he’s inspired that day and
think about while running J I have a
close friend working on a little flyer as well to be generated via Facebook,
twitter, email, and whatever avenue we can.
I have created a twitter account thanks to Tara coaxing me into it, and
I’ve been obsessed with the opportunities it can bring. My twitter name is MissySpangler22 if anyone wants
to follow J
I suppose a
Basketball Party completes the Basketball season…so maybe tomorrow the focus
will be on dad’s next sport he was involved in….baseball/tee-ball/softball/track?.... We are
use to seasons overlapping in our household.
I leave you
today with this quote….(if you keep following the blog you’ve learned dad loves
his inspirational quotes and this one is only fitting for the upcoming
track/running season)
"To give anything
less than your best is to sacrifice the gift"--Steve Prefontaine
We will give
our best…..and prove to the nation dad just how much you’ve taught and inspired
us all.
