HAPPY BIRTHDAY TARA!!!! Today is the oldest sisters birthday!! I won't reveal her age because I believe she stopped counting :)
In regards to the running…I’ve gotten several miles in lately! (And yesterday my legs hated me for it!)
Friday I ran through the log road trails in the woods with
the puppy….We ran for around 35 minutes.
He can sure keep me entertained!
Saturday I was back on the road to get the usual 5-6
mile loop in just the typical up and back routine.
Sunday I set out to make it my longer day, and
longest day so far yet. Also running
around 1pm with a rather warm heat index added to the challenge (Don’t worry it’s
a silly mind game to tell yourself through another opportunity you’ve trained
during a hot day to make some other day seem easier). I estimated to run about 8 miles, but upon
further research I think it was closer to a little over 9 miles…so I hope that’s
a good thing with how I felt training!
Apparently I wasn’t the only one feeling the heat as information noting
the heat index warning for the Boston Marathon was being televised.
Monday April 16th was Boston Marathon Day. I knew I wouldn’t run the mileage of the
Boston Marathon but my legs felt like they were recovering from it! I felt like I had to drag them through the 5
mile run I went on.
I was having a conversation with a
local police officer here recently and it reminded me of dad’s days as a police
officer. What? You just thought dad was a teacher, dad, and
coach….I suppose this is another example of him being a man of many
titles. Many of you may not actually
know that about dad, but for a few summers dad was on the Pennsboro Police Department
with Tommy Summers. Now if you ever want
to be embarrassed as a child just wait for that moment you are walking out of
an event and your parent is waving at you from the police cruiser occasionally
giving the lights a flash and let the siren run a few rounds. (My sisters along
with Jennifer, Regina, and Tommy will agree I’m sure)
I’m a nervous kid, if you haven’t
picked up on that from prior blogs, and even though dad wasn’t a police officer
full time I remember how worried I would get sometimes when dad would leave for
work. I did find this picture upon
searching through photo’s of dad in his uniform, I remember several occasions
when I would sit on dad’s foot with my arms wrapped around his legs begging him
to take me with him. I guess many people
would call me a “Daddy’s Girl” and I would probably have to agree.
One
particular night I remember dad being called to a disturbance in town above the
City Park Close to the old Pennsboro High School. It must have just been me home with dad at the time because he had
to drop me off at the Kinline’s House on his way to the call. Well shortly after; more and more sirens
passed by, along with FBI agents and more.
There were shots fired (you could hear them) and at that moment as a kid, I remember just how
scared I was. Long story short, dad
ended up being fine along with every other police officer who responded to the
scene of a domestic call that involved threats as well as a gun/shots. You sometimes take for granted people who
put their life as risk even if it’s something you never expect to happen in a
small town. It’s just another example of dad never hesitating to respond to that
call and do what needed to be done to take care of a situation, even if he
never imagined something to that degree when signing up for the summer job.
